Hayward Lumber Co. is a leading ProSale organization that operates full-service lumberyards, window and door design centers throughout central California.

We have an immediate opening for a Kitchen and Bath Designer – Sales Associate for our established Salinas, CA location.

The successful candidate will bring great design and sales skills, enthusiasm and an optimistic outlook! 
This position is perfect for a person who is a team player and would love helping others to create the kitchen and bathroom of their dreams. You will be equipped with the latest design software, updated displays, vendor support and quality leads all in a professional, team-orient environment.


  • Create custom designs for customers using 20-20 Kitchen Design Software, ensuring all required installation notes and details are captured in plans
Assist customers in viewing cabinet samples or displays.
  • Identify and develop sales leads; plan and complete customer follow up to lead customers through the sales process and close sales
  • Use persuasive selling skills to create cabinet sales including upgraded cabinet features and other product category items to maximize customer experience and satisfaction
  • Maintain accurate documentation of customer activity; document the customer sales process and maintain customer records in the CRM and other software and systems as requested
  • Stay up to date with trends and competitor’s developments to ensure designs are current with market expectations.
  • Complete accurate order forms and supporting documentation and submit
  • Collect deposits, payments from customer as required.
  • Adhere to Hayward’s safety standards and enforce safety regulation


  • High School diploma or GED
  • 3 years of kitchen and bath industry work experience.
  • 3 years inside sales, design and/or showroom experience.
  • Proven track record of closing sales at or above company established guidelines
  • 2 years 20-20 design software experience
  • Appliance specification knowledge
  • Understanding of Remodeling and local building codes
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Suite
  • Strong organizational skills, including ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all exterior and internal customers
  • Valid Driver License and ability to travel to local job sites (company conducts pre-hire screening)

Inside Sales Support

Accountable for providing all customers with knowledgeable, courteous, and prompt service at the sales counter and sales floor.  Additionally provides Outside Sales Rep (OSR) with support on various duties and responsibilities.

  • Helps develop new prospects by assisting OSR in qualifying leads, gauging interest level, time frame, needs, etc.
  • Solicits sales orders from existing customers via phone then coordinates product ordering with vendors.
  • Helps drive new product sales by communicating to customers by fielding telephone calls and directing customers to correct products and services.
  • Assists in accurate product delivery and works with dispatcher to coordinate delivery schedules.
  • Assists OSR with estimates including researching materials and costs for price quotes prepares sales quotes as directed and handles special orders for Lumber & Building Material OSR.
  • Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from newspapers, business directories, and other sources.

Contractor Counter Sales

Accountable for providing sales leadership in contractor sales and for achieving the store’s contractor sales and margin objectives by performing the following duties.

  • Assists and ensures customers are provided knowledgeable, courteous, and prompt service and are satisfied with services provided before and after an order is placed.
  • Coordinates deliveries and credit pick-ups with yard dispatcher.
  • Knowledge of products and store operations.
  • Deliver accurate sales estimates and quotes to prospective customers of building material and cost.
  • Researches and provide accurate information to customers regarding proper materials and prices as well as technical information regarding application and specifications.
  • Ensures all projects generate appropriate profit margins to justify sale or quote.
  • Adheres to Hayward’s safety standards and enforces safety regulations.

Outside Sales Representative Doors & Windows

Represents the company providing sales and customer service at the customer’s site; facilitates generating sales by gathering data related to customer needs and design specifications and acting as company liaison.  Spends majority of daily activities away from employer’s place of business making sales calls and obtaining orders or contracts for services and products.

  • Provides job site measurements and collects specification information.  Develops understanding of customer’s needs and matches those needs with company products and services.  Effectively presents to customers detailed information on various products and services offered by Hayward.
  • Troubleshoots issues in the field regarding various products and services and coordinates resolutions.
  • Provides product quotes to customers as needed.
  • Serves as liaison between the company and the customer for up-to-date status of pricing, service and industry trends.
  • Utilizes time in the field pursuing leads, servicing accounts and gathering market intelligence on opportunities and competitors.
  • Actively identifies potential new customers for Hayward.
  • Continually puts forth effort to improve product knowledge and sales techniques by participating in company-sponsored training programs.
  • Adheres to Hayward’s safety standards and enforces safety regulations.
